What’s the difference between a whole-home standby generator and a portable generator?

A standby generator is permanently installed, connected through an automatic transfer switch, and typically runs on natural gas or propane. It starts automatically during an outage—no cords and no refueling in severe weather.

Will a standby generator keep my furnace running during a power outage?

Often, yes. When properly sized and installed, a standby generator can power a furnace or boiler’s essential electrical components (controls and blower), helping you maintain heat during outages—one of the biggest benefits for Michigan winters.

Can a generator power my sump pump?

In most homes, yes. We confirm your pump type and starting load, then design the backup power plan to include it where feasible.

Do I need an automatic transfer switch (ATS)?

Yes for a standby generator system. The ATS safely disconnects your home from the utility grid and switches your home to generator power automatically.

Do you install Generac generators in Novi, Northville, Livonia, and Canton?

Yes. We frequently install Generac systems across Southeast Michigan, including Novi, Northville, Livonia, Canton, Plymouth, Ann Arbor, and Brighton. We can also compare other brands if you want options.

How much does a whole-home generator cost in Southeast Michigan?

Cost depends on generator size and site complexity—especially gas line routing, electrical upgrades, and placement constraints. In our experience across Oakland and Wayne County homes, many projects land within a broad middle range, with costs increasing when trenching, panel work, long gas runs, or propane infrastructure is needed. We provide a detailed, home-specific estimate.

Does Rocket Service Pros handle gas line installation and electrical upgrades?

Yes. We handle the electrical work (including ATS integration and panel needs) and gas line connections as part of a turnkey project.

Do I need permits and inspections?

In most municipalities, yes. Permits and inspections are common for generator installs. We take care of permitting and coordinate inspections.

How long does installation take?

On-site work is often completed in 1–3 days, depending on complexity. The full timeline depends on permitting and equipment lead times. We’ll set expectations up front and keep you updated throughout.

Do you offer maintenance plans?

Yes. We offer maintenance options and membership-based priority scheduling to help keep your generator ready and supported.
